  1. UPDATE 31-3-2016. My overall experience, INTRO: Is your home cockpit spaghetti wiring difficult to keep track of? Solution. Create a printed circuit board (PCB), much like any electronics device has nowadays. Option 1: DIY at home. Use chemicals to make a PCB, by etching wiring onto a copper plate of <>15cm x 12cm. Cost <>€12. Option 2: DIY at home. Use a CNC Router such as "X-carve" to etching wiring onto a abovementioned copper plate. Cost <>€2 exluding the CNC router!! Option 3: Have it made in China. Advantage: Cheap €15 for 10pcs. Disadvantage: 4 weeks wait time. TOOLCHAIN for CNC'ing DIY. 1. Hardware. * CNC 3040 such as Shapeoko, X-carve or Chinese CNC 3040. * Drill bits. V-shaped 0,1mm and PCB drillbits of >=0,80 to 5,0mm * Computer with parallel port * RECOMMENDED. Buy USB-port TinyG or a GRBL-USB Motion controller, replaces the parallel port-option. 2. Software. * CAD-program. KiCAD / Eagle to design the PCB. * FlatCAM to convert PCB 'Gerber'-files to gcode-text files. * LinuxCNC or Chillipeppr to actually run the machine. All above software are FREE open source. DIY PCB in 3 steps. 1. Design the PCB in your preferred CAD program. 2. Export the PCB to 'Gerber' files. 3. Produce it. * China?? Upload the gerbers in ZIP-format to DirtyPCBs. Then wait 4 weeks. Cheap, but slow. * Chemical? Beyond my experience. * CNC? Translate gerber to gcode, and execute on your CNC. TODO: 1. Write out beginners guide to PCBs with CNC machines. 2. make yourube vid on gcode to physical PCB. [[ reserved for future]] 24-2-2016; Guys, I consider investing in a cheap http://www.ebay.nl/itm/CNC-ROUTER-ENGRAVER-ENGRAVING-MACHINE-3-AXIS-3020T-WOODWORKING-ARTS-CRAFTS-/221814559429?hash=item33a52d92c5:g:GkoAAOSwPcVV0qkb Chinese CNC PCB router[/url], with USB port for MiG-21bis cockpit panels & PCBs. I had 2x PCBs made by dirtyPCBs but that takes too long, and 1x mistake, and its another 4 weeks waiting :cry:. Option 1. Home made PCB using chemicals. Physically no space, and my wife wont allow it. Option 2. DirtyPCBs. Cheap but 4-weeks waiting time = €14. Option 3. DirtyPCBs + DHL shipping + 2 weeks waiting time = €58 Option 4. My own PCB Mill 2030. Costs €450 + Mach3 software. Option 5. Ask a FABlab in my city to make it. NONE of them have CNC, and NOBODY knows about PCB Milling. I've asked at hobby groups too. I get blank stares. I watched a sh*tload youtube vids, experimented with FlatCAM & CAMotics simulating PCB milling, and feels its the way to go. 1. Whats your opinion on owning a mill vs dirtyPCBs? 2. Is a 300w spindle any good for cutting (wooden) panels? 3. What is the actual working area of 30cmx20cm mill? Is it smaller than that? 4. Which soft/hardware will i need to phucsally let the mill operate? (free alternative to Mach3?) 5. Any other tips, advice, or opinions? One example of my PCB to make. ============================================= UPDATE 23-6-2016 the below PCB was made. Bit used=v-shaped 0,2mm tungsten carbide carving depth=0,1mm (takes only copper away) carve speed=280mm per minute Track spacing=0,6mm Track width=0,8mm Gcode generator=FlatCAM 8.4 (open source) FlatCAM CNC file used=xxxx_noncopper_paint_cnc.nc Material=1,65mm thick copper plated board IMPORTANT: The drill area was autolevelled using tinyG before start.
  2. Has any1 noticed that there are duplicate NDBs? East of Mozdok & Beslan shares 820Mhz and 822Mhz respectivley. I departed from Beslan in a L-39ZA heading to Mozdok and tuned 820Mhz but the beacon appears to be 231km east of Mozdok and has the same freq. Confusing. Any1 else noticed this?
  3. When will the Mi-8 / UH-1H be multicrew online capable? At release of the Mi-8 Belsimtek said that they wait for ED to implement it. Since DCS 1.5.1 the L-39C' release which is capable of online multicrew been its been quiet from Belsimtek. Or did i miss sumthing?
  4. Why i use arduino; 1. Bcs of DCS-BIOS which has made interacting with DCS plug-n-play. It runs on arduino. 2. Cost. I buy an Arduino Nano V3 from AliExpress in China for €2,20. 3. I can design custom-built printed circuitboards + made in china for €2,50 p.piece. 4. Trying to make rip components & make 'em work with DCS? Spare me the time. No thanks. Thanx to DCS-BIOS its became so easy nearly any1 can do it. Total production cost per panel could be as little as €20 -- as an Arduino shield.
  5. TX 4 the tip :):) I use a 3-pin On-off switch. However this 'works' on my prototype. but, definitley will correct my design schema. all tips, improvements much appreciated. CHANGELOG: added Arduino Nano Shield headers. added RS-485 serialbus communications -- would it work? :helpsmilie: added RJ-45 ethernet to easily linkup panels to eachother -- tip from BravoYankee4. added Pushbutton to for example use as chaff dispenser. added I2C-port interface. Allows further extension of the panel. added 2x mulitpurpose IO-ports with 5v-powerline. fixed pot-meters for cabin lighting so 5V are now wired. changed Silkscreen texts to Russian cyrrilic. 6. Here's my MiG-21bis W.I.P. Main Power panel. Leftside(red) prototype from DirtyPCBs, righthandside is hand-soldered version. next version will be a Arduino Nano shield and Max-487. New version, with MAX-487. please help if i do it wrong.. (design in kiCAD)
  7. Interisting. Where did u buy it? Or how?
  8. UPDATED: with PCBs I just received prototype PCBs from China and did sum soldering. The next version will be a Arduino Nano shield. No kabelsalat wiring.Only a usb cable to the computer. :)
  9. These 2 vids shows how to use ARK-stations to navigate at nighttime low vis, using ARK. Flight is from Krasnodar to Kutaisi. part 1 [ame] [/ame] part 2 [ame] [/ame]

  10. Nice thing u got going there :). U using an Arduino? Certainly one could use a Pi which i use to wtch movies. Using it with DCS is beyond my capabilities. Since DCS-BIOS has opened possibilityies of exploiting cheapo Arduino's.
  11. I have no experience with SIOC. DCS-bios + Arduino = easy!! 98% of cockpits begin built by forum members are for the A-10C. Most of them switched to Arduino.
  12. FREE.. (sortof) I'm giving away my homebuilt prototype MiG-21bis Main Power Panel. Cost: €16 + shipping, You only pay for the parts & shipping. I'm NOT making money of this. Its plug-n-play with USB port. Why? 1. My budget is limit. I need to sell this, to afford 'version 0.0.2'. 2. So i can afford version 0.0.3 which features Chinese machine manufactured PCB circuitry. 3. Make sum1 happy.. What u get? An arduino Uno. The PCB with hand soldered on-off switches. NOTE: * Its my first attempt at cockpit making. * This is a hobby project. Theres no shop guarentee. * The buttons are skew, and not really on their-place.. but it works. * If you know Arduino, you can easily adapt it for the Ka-50, A-10C or UH-1H. * It comes fully assembled. Just like on the pix below. Usage; 1. Connect the Arduino to USB port. 2. Download + install dcs-bios, modify your export.lua-file & CMD-file using Notepad++. 3. Start dcs-bios CMD-file. 4. Start DCS-world, and MiG-21bis mission. 5. Enjoy. Total time: <=10 minutes. Not scared yet? Not afraid of being an alfa tester? :music_whistling: Drop me a PM.
  13. Suid-Afrikaans lugmag. Rooivalk aanvalshelikopter.
  14. My current kabelsalat has 2x Uno's for my MiG-21bis (still conntecyed to breadboard). is the RS-845 sum sort of I2C IO-port multiplier? does it mean, that only ONE COM-port would be needed for all arduino's? like here below?
  15. Can you up it to GitHub..? Hopefully TurboHog doesnt mind :music_whistling:
  16. I wanna sortof create JTAC radio menu(multiplayer). , but more flexible. SORRY if this was asked before.. Got this idea from the Su-27 Ultimate Argument campaign. How it 'should' work; PREREQUISITES: (a) At least one (multiplayer) aircraft occupied., (b) at least ONE random unitstatus <> destroyed TRIGGER: Random flag becomes true. Scenario; - F10 radio menu 'Command HQ' becomes available when a trigger/flag becomes true. - F10 radio menu, (multiplayer) pilot chooses radio menu Command HQ, - Player tunes to pre-assigned radio frequency - Player then uses a submenu Request tasking, == Command HQ responds with voice & text: (a) no tasks available, or (b) has a task; When Command HQ has a task available; - Another submenu, allowing tasking request from the pilot. - Pilot uses submenu, and requests tasking, which is any of the random activated units. - Command HQ responds using voice/text message on a pre-assigned radio freq. == also, would be cool in LUA-code for the Command HQ to change radio frequency at this time. - Submenus becomes available: 'Assignment' with options (a) accept assignment, (b) reject assignment, © repeat assignment order. * Pilot chooses (a) accept: a voice & text message is broadcasted on the radio frequency to acknowledge. * Pilot chooses (b) reject: the script continues. * Pilot chooses © rejects: voice message is played, command HQ screams dumbass etc etc. :P Questions; 1. How do i get a radiomenu into DCS. 2. Multiplayer. Will it work for 1 connected client? 3. How to limit availability only to red/blue coalition? 4. How can one get a menu to activate by trigger etc etc? All :helpsmilie:appreciated.
  17. How can the RS-845 save me from Kabelsalat? I dont really get it :book:. Gadrock suggested 3x buses. Does that mean one needs only 3x Nano's + 1x Mega to drive like total >=200 buttons, switches, pot-meters?? ATM i have 1x Arduino Uno for this;
  18. Why doesnt the AWACS respond? Above could be a solution my solution. I experimented a little. The more AI's the slower the AWACS is responding. Sumtimes after about 5 minutes silence, he would spontaenously call out ghost contacts very closeyby 'merged' right in front of me. I then do F5, nothing to see. Whats happening? I think.. the AI aircraft are spamming the AWACS with requests. It then responds to all of them in turn. By the time it reponds to me, its responds with above ghost contacts. Solution, i think. 1. Have only my own flight + AWACS on the same radio freq. 2. Submit a request to ED: broadcast communications from player/AI's to ATC & AWACS via the current selected radio channel.
  19. Possibly yes, but even then.. it also reports ghost contacts. So it seems.
  20. The awcs is weird. Or am i mssing something? I'm flying the Stillness in Time campaign. It seems as if the AWACS buffers its radio messages. For example. Misison start. I ask for bandits. It responds: It responds with BRA. 5 minutes later. Ask for bandits. Awacs response: none. Silence. 10 minutes into misison. The awacs repsonds out of nowhere with BRA. I then ask for bandits. It responds with: Clean :joystick:. After 12 minutes again ask for BRA, no response. After 15 minutes, again asking bandits. It responds with bandits in MiG-21bis radar' range. I point radar there within paramters. Nothing. :helpsmilie: Knock me over. Its weird. The awacs either buffers its messages, or not in range or..??
  21. Hi DCS-team. Could you globally collect usage from pilot'logbooks? Anonymously Some of us whishes to create content for DCS. A usefull feature would be to know sales figures, which modules are used often, how often they are used and time spent per module. These metrics are collected already in the logbook. Now, just upload those to a DCS server and authorized 3rd parties could get indications on the usage. That would enable responsible and trusted 3rd parties to create content. :helpsmilie: On a sidenote; * Collected data should be anonymous. No recording of IP adress, name etc etc * ED collects the data, and only shares with 3rd parties. Whats your view on this?
  22. In regards to the MiG-21bis cockpit THIS ugly thing below, should become something which resembles MiG-21bs cockpit fuelpump switches. And this is ingame, but what are the spacing between the switches, who knows it? all tips appreciated.
  23. SOLVED by clean install of DCS 1.5 beta
  24. Same here. Framerates <=2fps. ALL other modules gives >=40fps. DCS 2.0alfa + M-2000C = 20fps DCS 1.5beta + M-2000C = 1fps Both versions are clean, no community expansions.
  25. Just got it. The wife asked if i come to bed early tonight. She doesnt know about xmas gift to myself :) :)
