  4. Hi All, I have an F18 thrust lever module that i am connecting to DCS, and as It has auto throttle servos, that is the latest focus/issue. I using a custom pic to control the auto throttle etc, only issue is i cant figure out how to get the ATC thrust lever commands from the export data. I swear i found something about 2 years ago where an increase and decrease signal was coming out in a data export(dcs bios i think) but now i am try to connect it up i cant find it anywhere. Even just 'weight on wheels' and 'ATC engaged' data would be enough to write a simple algorithm based on engine rpm and speed data which is available in DCS bios does anyone know a way to get these signals from DCS? thanks in advance
  5. Just finished mission 3, and noticed a couple things.. First, on start up, we do radio checks and i can hear wingman, other flights and myself, but nowhere through the departure, does departure actually respond OR if im meant to change freqs it doesnt tell me too, in which case, that would be handy. second, im using PP to drop the JDAMs and i actually played the mission twice, as i ran into an issue i'll cover next, but both times when using co-ords, i follow the bomb with F6 and the trucks are on target, but the other bomb goes to fuel tanks which are already destroyed, and this happened both times, and both times on BDA he says target partially destroyed. Could the co-ordinates in the kneeboard be wrong? Also, as mentioned above, on my first play through when i got to the convoy, now this part im not entirely sure, but he says its south of the target but it seems north? regardless i couldnt find first time through, so i ordered wingman to attack convoy, he said target destroyed, but there was no option for "attack complete", so i headed off, ended up calling winchester as fuel was past joker. Second run i realized we both need to get the convoy and after several units the option for "attack complete comes up, but i guess it wasnt very clear. even after getting 2 trucks myself and wingman got 2, got the message "attack complete, but still scored partially destroyed. cuz it was a bit confusing i ended up abandoning the first run. Lastly, when grabbing a drink on the way back, i got in observation, ordered wingman to tank and he didnt, tried several times, he just went into observation, so i got my fuel and left, i figure hes set to have unlimited anyway, but just thought i'd report it. Also thought it was a bit weird to be tanking inside the corridor especially when clearance is given he says "assigned alttitude" (which is 28) but tankers at 25, but again not entirely sure, this may be SOP? Anyway, hope this helps, may also be user error on my part, there never seems to be enough time to stay "current" these days
  6. Currently, the Unit selection (which is the airfield selection) is in some unknown order. It would be much easier to select one if this could be in alphabetical order. Furthermore, there is the selection of dozens of "H" helipads which is pretty useless, since there is no indication which "H" is which. The picture is an example of the Syria map.

  8. Hi friends, * returning from a mission and your plane is barely holding itself in the air trying to make it back to base. A straight in priority approach would save you, but the traffic pattern is full and the tower tells you to enter the holding pattern because there is no request for a emergency landing, which puts you as nr.1 to land. Instead it tells you to go around. So in short : A option in the ATC menu ' Request emergency landing ' would be so helpful and activating a script that puts all inbound/surrounding traffic on go around or hold. I'm sure many pilots are out there trying to make it back in one peace while struggling holding there plane in the air upon return. Might be a helpful addon or is there another option to make this work ? Kind regards, RWC

  11. Hi everyone, Very minor thing, at the moment Andersen AFB has 250.100 MHz set as its UHF tower frequency, according to this and this , the correct UHF frequency is 233.700 MHz. The VHF frequency of 125.700 MHz is however, correct.
  12. Greetings fellow simmers, Today I have come to nitpick a small, but prevalent technicality in the phraseology I hear used commonly in multiplayer servers where there is no local controller "staffing the tower," as it were, and the airfields are essentially "pilot-controlled." I say "pilot-controlled" as it is the preferred nomenclature that encompasses all sorts of non-towered operations. A "non-towered" field is a bit of a misnomer, since many airfields do have towers, but their towers do not always operate 24/7/365. They have published operating hours, and when the tower is closed, it doesn't mean the whole field is shut down. You just use the tower frequency as a CTAF, provided there is no discrete CTAF frequency published in the chart. This also distinguishes the term from "uncontrolled fields," since that is also not technically accurate. So if tower is closed, and there is no ATIS to designate which runways are in use, how do you know which one to use? The easiest answer is any one you like. In the real world, we can make use of things like the Airport Facility Directory (AFD), which has all the information that is too much to fit on a chart. This usually has things like the tower's operating hours (if applicable), traffic pattern altitude, preferred runways, noise abatement procedures, and so on. The preferred runways are also sometimes interchangeable with the "calm winds" runway(s). Winds are considered calm when below 5 knots in any direction. In calm winds, you could technically takeoff or land from any runway you wish. Of course, it is always best practice to choose the runway that most closely aligns against the wind, Sometimes this isn't possible, and you have to accept either a left or right crosswind on departure. So in these situations where the runway choice is ambiguous, which runway is "active"? All of them. But also, none of them. There are no "active runways" during pilot-controlled field operations. Active runways can only be designated by a local controller or specified in the ATIS message. At pilot-controlled fields, all runways can be "active." So when you say "taking the active" (where are you taking it, by the way?) or "clear of the active," you're not doing anyone any favors, because they don't know which runway you consider active. Always use the runway number when you're making a call that references a runway. It helps everyone listening on the frequency develop their mental picture of where you are in relation to them, and what is happening on the field, and in the traffic pattern. Always remember that pilots listening on the frequency might not be visual the field, or they are at the field but they can not see you, either because of ground obstacles or you're outside their field of view. When making your CTAF calls, pretend that you are talking to the blind. That is all. Thank you for listening to me quibble about this trivial thing!
  13. ATC of FARP keeps telling me about taxiing (there is no taxiway here!), freezes when taking off, or doesn't see me landing (no option to ask to land at all). Hello ED, did you notice that we have more and more copters and next (Kiowa, Bolkov) incoming too? What about ATC for FARP, its ready only for standard airport with the runway but what about FARP?
  14. I noticed while doing a nav exercise that ATC hold doesn't hold speed over a long period of time, the speed gradually decreases, by the end of a 30 minute leg I've lost 5 knots. This is a bit of a pain for TOT calculations and navigation. Is this a bug or is it intended? I can't see how it could be anything but a bug. Method: 1. Set ATC at 420 kts 2. Engage BALT and CPL AP modes 3. Jet holds 420 4. Change pitch in order to force increase or decrease in speed > return to level flight (ATC remains engaged, not flashing) Expected result: ATC alters throttle to resume 420 Kts Actual result: ATC fails to target 420 kts, throttle does not move, ATC remains at the lowest speed reached during the pitch maneuver ATC_test.miz.zip
  15. Hmmm, no chocks for WW2 fighter? How is possible ;)? So can you add this option on ATC > ground crew for Anton? It is normal to heat the engine It was in old IL-2 even: Pretty please .
  16. Trying out ILS Landings I found that the active runway logic for Mount Pleasant is a bit off. All Tracks where made with 100°/280° METEO wind direction -> runway 28 should be active in all cases since it´s also the ILS runway with 0kts Wind runway 28 is active. with wind from 1-5kts runway 10 is actice with wind greater 5kts runway 28 is active. should be not too hard to fix and also maybe fixes some taxiing problems ( ) so maybe threads can be merged. tracks attached mount_pleasant_runway28.trkmount_pleasant_runway10.trkmount_pleasant_runway28_0_wind.trk

  18. DCS has a big community and choosing a place to settle down can be hard. There are a lot of groups out there and all of them have a different culture and fly differently. As you are reading this ask yourself what you want out of a DCS group. VFA-211 is a DCS Strike Fighter Squadron that is dedicated to getting as close as possible to real-world Naval aviation operations. VFA-211 is committed to training its members to be the best of the best. VFA-211 offers a unique experience in that we capture the culture around Naval Squadrons. We’re a tight-knit group of like-minded people who act like a family building each other up. We are devoted to making an authentic and realistic experience. We are often classified as a military simulation (mil-sim), but what does that exactly mean? Well, our definition of mil-sim is that we strive to get as close as we can to real-world operations within the limits of DCS. VFA-211’s members have a lot of experience in a wide range of tactics and procedures. Our members are devoted to helping one another accomplish the goal of creating a realistic experience within DCS. Mil sim does not mean you have to greet people and say sir, but we do have a chain of command and ranks to identify members and their respective contributing roles. VFA-211 is looking for people to be ATC/AIC(Commonly referred to as GCI in the DCS community)/CATCC Controllers, etc. The Role entails going through our controller training course, no experience is required, and controlling at VFA-211 events that happen bi-weekly on Saturdays at 2030 EST and Every Tuesday at 2030 EST. VAW-126 (our controller squadron) has 3 slots open for Controller. Please note we will train you on all aspects of controlling and the controller can not fly in VFA-211. VFA-211 is also looking for 2 mission planners. The role entails going to the VFA-211 Staff meeting that happens on Monday at 2030 EST and the mission planning sessions bi-weekly on Saturdays at 2030 EST on off weeks. The missions have to be made per VFA-211 SOPs and TTPs that will be taught to you. Note VFA-211 Mission planners can fly for VFA-211 but it’s not required. VFA-211’s motto is “Work hard, play hard”. We feel that if you put in the effort that’s what you’ll get out of it. So is VFA-211 a good fit for you? What do you want out of a DCS group? Here are more questions that you can ask yourself. Do I enjoy Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and reading/ abiding by them? Am I experienced enough in Controlling or mission planning? Do I enjoy working as a team and learning in a professional and realistic manner? Can I receive criticism in debriefs whether I fail or succeed in a given mission? Can I become part of a group that flies in the Eastern Standard Time zone on Tuesdays and Bi-weekly Saturdays at 2030 EST? Do I enjoy helping out the squadron outside of missions? If you said yes to all of the above, VFA-211 may be a good option for you. If you have made it to the end of this, congratulations! We look forward to having you on our team. FLY NAVY!! 20. Add option to ask ATC "where am I relative to field" or have ATC volunteer this info. Example. Called "Inbound" west of Batumi (see image), it directs to rwy 13. It gives contra course, which might seem odd. What is happening, I believe, is that anytime I call "[F1] Inbound", or keep calling "[F2] Request Azimuth", it keeps directing me to a point outside of the field in the runways extension (for runway 13, extension is to about 9 nm NW Batumi I surmise looking at F10 map). As experiment I kept calling "[F2] Request Azimuth" (Navigation assistance), it kept giving me any and all directions 75, 250, 179, 56 ... whatever (because I kept passing the point it directed me too). In daylight, you can ignore this and just keep heading for the field until it calls "cleared for visual, contact tower". In pitch black night time on the other hand ... you can keep running around forever getting new directions, never seeing the field or even being told you should see the field. One can infer I guess, if one keeps getting contradictory directions but remembering it's for rwy 13, that must mean you are NW of Batumi. One could then steer 130 hoping to see the rwy and getting the "cleared for visual, contact tower". It would be a help, especially at night, if ATC actually told you where you are relative to the field: "you are NW Batumi" followed by "steer 297" (or whatever) for "landing inception point". If ATC AI was really intelligent, of course, it would never say "297" in this situation, it would suggest a course (and altitude?) that asymptotically approaches the correct RWY approach. But adding human judgement to ATC AI is extremely complicated and will not happen. But adding an option to have ATC AI volunteer where you are relative to the field or adding an option to straight up ask "ATC where am I relative to the field?", that could be done. Following real world vocabulary of course. This brought about because I've never seen RWY lights in multiplayer ever, that I can remember so I tried an night offline mission. Yes, the RWY lights do come on when calling inbound (and goes off if you call abort landing). So then I tried some pitch black navigation and discovered I can run around forever, never seeing the field, if I keep following "[F2] Request Azimuth" directions.
